Anyone reading this article who has played or officiated even one rugby game understands the brutal nature of the sport and realizes that aggression and ruggedness are essential to survival on the pitch. But the Laws do not condone play that might delay the action or possibly result in an injury or fight. The Sin Bin is a vital tool for any rugby official, but it should always be used in moderation. Although you may want to stick 'em in the hole, there are several infractions where an official should be careful about penalizing with a 10-minute sit-out.
