We were introduced to Mark Wheeler’s life as a referee in Part I. As an A-Panel member of USA Rugby’s referee association, his services are in great demand.
In Part II, we are looking deeper into the Association’s organization and its members. We’ll learn how they fare against the world’s best referees. We’ll also learn what their chances are in making the grade to join the world’s elites — where the money is.
Perhaps the problem is not with the rest of the world, but with the grassroot layer of Rugby in the U.S. Even so, suffering the "bad boy" reputation of the ‘60s and ‘70s, sidelines abuse, and a stubborn "good-old-boy" network in the USA Rugby organization are not helping.
