Most important position — at scoring time

he referee must be in position for the most important action of a match — when a team scores points.

When a player presses the ball down in the in-goal area (end zone), Mr. Referee had better be there to see whether the ball was "grounded" correctly at the spot of the action.

Law 9 - Method of Scoring: Try - When an attacking player is first to ground the ball in the opponents' in-goal.

The Referee's (right, blue/white jersey) positioning on the sideline during a line-out does not give him quick coverage should the ball be thrown long. Players will block his vision since the dynamics of the game change quickly. (Photo Matt Mataele)
